Summary

of the project

Living with a mentally ill person is a heavy strain on a family and especially on the children, who are at a significant greater risk to develop short and long term mental health problems or psychosocial difficulties.

Of concern is the transfer of mental illness from generation to generation. The children and the families are in need of professional understanding, support and counseling. Even though intervention programmes are emerging, the needs of these children and the needs of the adults concerning parenting are still not being met.

The main aim of the project is to develop a new pan-European training course to upgrade the skills of the professionals working with the families of mentally ill parents.
